Editing Guide

Articles on NovaTek are written by it's community, everyone with an account is free to add pages and write blogs. These are guidelines for doing so.

To understand how you are given access to the site, visit the Member Ranks page.

Guidelines for Editing

General

All content added to NovaTek must be about the subject and for the gratification of the reader. Any attempt to leak PageRank or traffic to other sites for personal gain will result in the revoking of your clearance, and possibly a ban.

When posting news of demos, trailers, etc, you should wisely link to appropriate download sites. Where possible link to the following:

Don't link directly to the very last download page, as it's usually a session-generated page for the download. Instead link to the download description page.

Keep content relevant - don't make small news blogs with nothing important to say.

News Items (aka Blogs)

Do not put reviews in blogs. News blogs should be used to update the readers on new content added to the site, or events pertaining to the culture of NovaTek.

Blogs have two sections, an introduction and a full brief. When viewing the PermaLink for a news blog the introduction is displayed with the full brief directly below it. Keep the introduction to around 2 paragraphs, the full brief is optional and not often used, but if you need to add more information that isn't part of a content page, place it here.

Content Pages (aka Reviews)

Your content page is where you place your game reviews and product information. These are permanent pages that are linked from the Games, Hardware, etc menus.

Each type of content page (Movie, Game, etc) has a different set of optional field. Fill in these fields only if the information you are placing in them is accurate. If the information is dubious or not applicable, leave the field blank.

Write your content without bias, if you have opinions or contraversy, post in the forums and attach a forum link to the content page.

TOC Keys

A TOC key is a smart way of linking to another page on NovaTek. Instead of creating a link and using the URL of the page, which may change causing broken links on the site, you can link to a TOC key, which is designed to never change.

When you create an article on NovaTek, a TOC key is automatically generated. You can use the Page Finder to select the TOC URL, or if a TOC key isn't present, just the normal URL, which provides the smartest way to link to another page. An example of this would be instead of linking to http://www.novatek.com.au/somepage.html you make the link to {LINK=some-page} (where 'some-page' is the TOC key for /somepage.html). This means that if the URL for 'Some Page' changes, your link will continue to point to the right place.
