Multiple Network Connections in Games

For those of those who either have multiple network adapters or use VPN systems like Hamachi, you will often find you may have trouble with games during network setup. Some games, like Supreme Commander will show NIL pings when used with Hamachi others like Empire at War will create unusual connectivity errors. There is an easy way to control this -

Some of the smarter games like Generals will allow you to select which network adapter you want to use. This is a great idea but many games simply don't have options like this.

Navigate to your 'Network Connections' in Windows, either by right-clicking on 'My Network Places' and hitting properties or via the Control Panel. Once in, press 'Advanced' from the main menu and select 'Advanced Settings'. In there you will see a list of all your network adapters. Typically you would place your 'Local Area Connection' or modem at the top, this will help GPGnet and other online systems to work better, unless you are trying to play over Hamachi. In this case, move the Hamachi adapter to the top of the list and your game will now use that adapter by default.
